Japanese golfer Yosuke Asaji is still processing the reality of officially becoming a LIV Golf League player for the 2026 season, describing the achievement as something he might fully appreciate only after playing his first tournament.
Earning a spot in the LIV Golf League is a major goal for players in this year's International Series. However, only two have secured their places: Scott Vincent from Zimbabwe, who won the International Series Rankings, and Asaji, who finished second.
Asaji’s path to this accomplishment has been impressive. After winning his first International Series title at the Moutai Singapore Open, he clinched his LIV Golf card two weeks later at the season finale, the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers, despite not making the cut.
He still finds it hard to believe. “It doesn’t feel real yet. It’s difficult to fully understand, but I’ve received many congratulations, so I think it will sink in when I begin playing,” he said.
Looking ahead, Asaji plans to focus on improving key parts of his game, especially his putting within seven feet, as well as enhancing his English to communicate better during the tour.
What excites him most is the opportunity to compete regularly against the world’s top players and Major champions. “I’m eager to test myself each week against the best players globally. It’s a fantastic opportunity and challenge I’m ready to take on.”
His breakthrough has also inspired those close to him, including his best friend Jinichiro Kozuma, a fellow LIV Golf League player. Kozuma praised Asaji’s strong finish to the season, particularly after some struggles in the Japan Tour, calling it highly motivating.
Reflecting on his season in the International Series and Asian Tour, Asaji expressed pride in his achievements and gratitude for the chance he earned. “I didn’t expect to secure a LIV Golf spot, so I feel very lucky. I see this as a result of always giving my best in every tournament.”
He also intends to continue competing on the Asian Tour and International Series next year.
With Asaji and Vincent securing the two available LIV Golf spots through the International Series Rankings, attention now turns to the LIV Promotions event happening January 8–11, 2026, at Black Diamond Ranch GC in Florida. There, two additional spots will be awarded.
The top 10 eligible players from the top 20 in the 2025 International Series Rankings will start in round two, while the next 25 eligible players from the top 40, who are not already exempt, will begin in round one of the event.
